WhoisXML API Presents Global DNS Trends at Europol

WhoisXML API, as part of its effort to make the Internet a safer place through transparency and the sharing of data relevant to the battle against cybercrime, was invited to attend the 13th Operation In Our Sites (IOS) conference held in Alicante, Spain, on 6–7 April 2022.

WhoisXML API presented its findings on bulk-registered typosquatting domains targeting luxury brands, such as Armani, Burberry, Cartier, Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Rolex, and Versace. These included:

  • A closer look at the typosquatting domains’ WHOIS records to help targets identify who could be behind attacks and what other web resources (i.e., domains) they have in their arsenals
  • Techniques to monitor the DNS for signs of brand spoofing for early detection and possibly attack prevention
  • Advanced DNS contextualization techniques to leverage other DNS intelligence sources for additional context, including what TLDs the actors favor, where they could be geolocated, and how many pages they have already weaponized
