3 Russian Threat Groups Target Persons of Interest
Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) detailed¹ three suspected Russian cyber espionage clusters — UNC6293, UNC7005, and UNC5976 — targeting individuals in academia, government, diplomacy, and defense across Europe and the U.S. Instead of malicious attachments, the clusters abuse legitimate authentication flows: app passwords, OAuth consent, Microsoft device codes, and WhatsApp device linking. One approval hands the attacker access to the target’s personal email, cloud, or messaging account.
The original analysis publicized 32 network IoCs. Aided by the WhoisXML API MCP Server², we investigated 33 IoCs—two subdomains, 26 domains, and five IP addresses—after extracting the apex domains from the subdomains and filtering out one that belonged to a legitimate entity.
